FarmIQ summer tip: Gross Margin Calculator

At this time of year, farmers are weaning and contemplating what to do with their lambs - sell or keep for finishing.

FARMAX is great for this question but if you are a FarmIQ subscriber and not ready yet to take on FARMAX there is a quick and simple analysis tool called Gross Margin Calculator.

It's in Tools and Calculators, accessed on the top right section of the menu bar. There are variants to explore finishing, store and grazing options for stock, and it calculates how much feed will be required so results can be expressed in $/kgDM eaten.

There's also a sensitivity table to quickly and easily see the impact of input variables such as animal growth rate and schedule price.
